In the early 70's the retail stores were sold. Owens' oldest son
Allen continued the legacy within the commercial sector and
focused the business on commercial doors, frames and
hardware. Currently Minton Door Company resides in Sunnyvale
with a sales office in downtown San Francisco. As Allen
approaches retirement, he has looked towards his children to
continue the work to keep Minton Door Company a thriving
business. With the support of Richard, Tom, Andrea, Denise,
and current employees, our hope is that Minton Door Company
can continue to build upon strong vendor/customer relationships
while successfully serving the Bay Area's construction needs.
The Minton family has had an active part in building the
Bay Area, dating back to 1911. Allen Minton's great-
grandfather had the vision to purchase a lumber company
in the town of Mountain View to serve orchard growers with
building materials. He promptly passed it on to his newlywed
son Earl, who played a major role in the development of the
city of Mountain View, even serving as the Mayor at one point.
Many of the homes in downtown Mountain View were
developed by the Minton Lumber Company. When Earl's son
Owens took over the business he chose to split the company
into a retail section, Minton's Lumber and Supply, and a
commercial line, Minton Company.
